Y. James “Jim” Swenson, 77, of Fargo, ND, passed away July 25, 2023, in the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Fargo.
Jim was born February 22, 1946, the son of Yngve and Hazel (Tofsly) Swenson, in Fargo, ND. He was named after his father, which was a common name in Sweden, but not so common in the United States. Over the years, Jim never came across anyone who had the same name. Jim started grade school and spent ten years at the Campus School at Moorhead State University, spending his last two years of high school at the Agricultural School in Crookston, MN.
From 1966 to 1968, Jim was in the U.S Army as a combat engineer, spending one year in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Army, he graduated from Moorhead State University. On June 21, 1990, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Quamme, and she passed away on March 26, 1996.
Jim served the community of Fargo as a Fireman starting his career in 1977 and working well into the 2000’s. In addition to being a fireman, he also owned a business cleaning out taps at many of the restaurants and bars in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Jim is survived by his five brothers and one sister, Larry (Shirley) Swenson, Glyndon, MN, Mark (Alice) Swenson, Barnesville, MN, Daniel (Debby) Swenson, Lake Park, MN, Richard Swenson, Lake Park, Robert Swenson, Moorhead, MN, and Joyce (David) Monk, Fergus Falls, MN; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and some great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kevin Swenson; and wife, Suzanne.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead, MN, with a Gathering of Family and Friends one hour prior to his service.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
