William D. Gorman, age 82, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND.
Born on August 28, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, William Daniel Gorman, affectionately known as “Bill,” was the son of Floyd and Elizabeth (Wilson) Gorman. He spent his formative years in Coalport, PA, a mining town—a town where if you wore a white shirt, it would look dingy from all the smog. He attended Mercersburg Academy before graduating from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Bill always had an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age, selling his parents’ washer and dryer when they weren’t looking to selling rides on his sister’s bike for 10 cents. He enjoyed reading and playing baseball, but what really stood out was his drive to make things better wherever he was.
After college, Bill began his career in the food industry with Marriott Foods. During his time in Washington, D.C., he met Judith Rietz, and they were united in marriage on June 13, 1971, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, ND. Their shared journey took them to ten different cities across the United States throughout Bill’s career before finding Richardson, Texas, as their home to raise their two children.
Bill was Senior Vice President of Catering and Special Events at the Dallas Market Center, overseeing food for concerts, auto shows, fashion shows, and a Presidential Election. Bill was driven to help the people he worked with. He made an effort to get to know them and their concerns. When he found out that there were no retirement benefits for the employees, he took care of it even though the owners were not happy about the additional money they had to pay. It nearly cost him his job.
Bill worked tirelessly to show his dedication to the company and the people. The owners agreed to let Bill head up feeding hundreds on Thanksgiving Day. He worked with the Salvation Army to bus hundreds of homeless people from downtown Dallas to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal at Dallas Market Hall. He gave the people trash bags and told them to fill their bag with the leftovers. His five-star chefs had donated their time to make the scrumptious food.
In the 1980s, Bill opened Billy G’s Café in Richardson, TX, allowing him to spend more time working alongside family and friends. The café was open for three years and was an opportunity for Bill and Judy to train their kids on skills that would last a lifetime. His career later concluded in Atlanta, GA, where he retired as Food Service Director from Woodward Academy. Following retirement, he and Judith relocated to Moorhead, MN, to be near their grandchildren.
Through every chapter of life, Bill showed his love for God, his faith in Jesus Christ, and his love for family, people, and good food. Even through years of illness, that compassion and drive never faded.
Bill and Judy were active members of Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead, living a life centered on Christ. Outside of his professional life, Bill cherished time spent with family and friends, enjoyed traveling, and loved creating lasting memories.
Bill will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, Judy; their children, Kristen Gorman and David (Carrie) Gorman; four grandchildren, Seth Gorman, Kyle Gorman, Andrew Gorman, and Tyler Anderson; one great-grandson, Adama-James Miles; and one sister, Betsey (Bob) Nalevanko.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Gorman.
