Waldo A. Gerlitz

Waldo A. Gerlitz, son of Gustav and Ottilie Gerlitz, was born April 20, 1921, at Goodrich, ND, where he grew up, received his education and graduated from high school in 1939. He attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis, MN, for a year, and three years at North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, ND.


During WW II, Waldo served his country in the US Army Air Corps. He was an officer and served overseas in the Pacific. While in the service, he was married to Shirley Olson on Jan. 16, 1945.


After his discharge in 1947, the family made their home in Fargo, where Waldo returned to college and graduated in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist for Fargo Clinic for a few years and then for Merck Company for more than thirty-seven years, as a pharmacy sales representative.


Waldo was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fargo, where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and was involved in various other committees. Waldo served in the Air Force Reserves for over twenty years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was also an active volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Fargo.


Waldo A. Gerlitz died on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at a MeritCare S. University in Fargo, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric; his parents, two sisters, and six brothers.


Waldo is survived by his wife, Shirley, Fargo; daughter, Sandra Schulz, Blue Spring, MO; four sons, Wayne (Shelley) Gerlitz, Mankato, MN, Bruce (Anita) Gerlitz, Fargo, Don Gerlitz, Fargo, and James Gerlitz, St. Paul, MN; two brothers, Eugene (Mavis) Gerli
Visitation: Friday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM

Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and

one hour before the funeral, at the church.


Funeral service: Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 2:00 PM

Fargo, North Dakota
