Pastor Thomas was born Jan 1, 1973, in Loa, Sudan. Civil war erupted in 1983, so in 1986 his parents sent him to Juba, Sudan, for education. In 1987, Thomas received Jesus Christ as his personal savior and Lord. In 1992, escaping unsafe conditions in South Sudan, Thomas was flown to Uganda to a refugee camp. Under difficult circumstances, he persisted in his education, completing high school in Adjumani, Uganda. In 1996, Pastor Thomas was licensed as a pastor, when he began work as district coordinator for the Africa Inland Church in Uganda. Joyce arrived at the same refugee camp in 1994, and they were married in 2002. Their years in the refugee camp were spent in church planting and evangelism, helping family and friends in the refugee camps, supporting orphans, and working in jail ministry. In 2000 Pastor Thomas earned a Bachelor of Theology degree from All Nations College and Seminary, Entebe, Uganda. In 2004 he was ordained as a Reverend pastor. He then became senior pastor at the Sudanese Gospel Mission Church.
In 2013, Thomas and Joyce immigrated to the United States. Once in the U.S., Thomas served in ministry to the Sudanese community in Fargo, establishing a fellowship at Salem Evangelical Free Church, and focusing on counseling through conflict resolution and reconciliation. Thomas was a beloved spiritual shepherd to the Sudanese community and will be deeply missed. From Fargo, Pastor Thomas continued to serve his Sudanese community back in the refugee camp in Uganda, establishing Restoration of Hope Center. The center includes a children’s home, Eden School, and a church. Pastor Thomas was a selfless servant of the Lord, always putting other’s needs before his own. In 2021, Thomas served as an elder at Salem up until his death due to cancer.
Pastor Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; and children, Daniel, Ruth, Debra, Manuela, Gloria, Godwill, and Nehemiah, all of Fargo.
