TaeSun Nygaard, 73, Edmore, ND, passed away December 20th, 2021, in her home with her family by her side following a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy.
TaeSun was born January 25th, 1948, in Daegu, South Korea. As a young girl she spoke fondly of memories playing by the ocean with her friends in South Korea and collecting seashells and wildflowers that bloomed each spring. She graduated from high school in Seoul, South Korea. It was in Seoul where she met, Richard Nygaard, while cutting his hair. They were united in marriage on April 19, 1971. They lived in Grand Forks, Valley City and made their home in Edmore, raising their three children.
TaeSun was a kind, patient and immensely caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a strong work ethic and loved tending to her flower gardens during the summer. Our quiet town held a close knit and robust neighborhood filled with kids, laughter and sometimes tears, with endless games of any sport you could imagine. This gave her an extended family through the years, which she was always thankful for. She will be remembered for her unconditional love given to her family and her determination to have all those who came into her home leave with full bellies and warm hearts.
TaeSun is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard; her children, Steve (Nora) Nygaard; Shawn (Sarah) Nygaard; Stacey (Thomas) Spellman; and her six grandchildren, Breanne, Carter, Jax, Lakyn, Remi and Joslyn. In addition, she is survived by brothers-in-law, Roger (Carmen) Nygaard, Ron (Linda) Nygaard, and Randy (Debra) Nygaard; sisters-in-law, Mardyce (Rob) Hill, Patty (Jerry) Stiburek, and Nancy (Mark) Kruse; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Robert Nygaard; and mother and father-in-law, Raymond (Myrtle) Nygaard.
Funeral Service for TaeSun will be Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 1:00pm, in Concordia Lutheran Church in Edmore, ND. Visitation will be one hour to services on Tuesday. Interment will be in the spring of 2022, in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fairdale, ND.
