Stephen W. Miller

Stephen Wayne Miller, 61, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his home under the care of HIA Hospice, with his loving family by his side.

Stephen was born on February 4, 1965, to Charles and Patricia (Anderson) Miller in Butte, Montana. He was raised in Billings, Montana, where he graduated from high school in 1984. During high school, he participated in ROTC from 1983 to 1984.

In 1986, Stephen enlisted in the United States Navy. He attended NCTC Boot Camp in San Diego, California, and Gulfport, Mississippi, before completing SeaBee training in Port Hueneme, California. During his six years of service as a Navy SeaBee, Stephen worked in construction, helping build runways, roads, piers, and naval bases. His assignments included Guantanamo Bay during the Cold War, Antarctica from 1987 to 1988, and Alameda, California, where he served until 1990. He earned the rank of Equipment Operator Second Class (EO2).

While in the Navy, Stephen married. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in trucking and construction. Around 1999, he moved to the Moorhead area, where he hauled gravel for Asplin Excavating, Stata, and Berg Trucking. He continued driving truck until November 2025, when illness forced him to leave the job he enjoyed.

Stephen met his wife, Denise, at the Windbreak. They were together for three years before marrying on Flag Day, June 14, 2002. Stephen lovingly welcomed Denise's son into the family.

Stephen enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially Harleys. He also loved hunting and fishing in Montana, where he treasured time spent outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Denise; two sons, Adam Hohnadel and Caden Dudley; his dad, Charles (Marie) Miller; and a brother, Kevin Miller.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia.

A Celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at noon at Shepherd of the Prairie Church, Fargo, ND with burial at Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood at 2 PM.
