Shirley A. Salveson

Shirley A. Salveson, 95, of Dilworth, MN, formerly of Winger, MN, passed away July 21, 2023, at Lilac Memory Care in Dilworth.

Shirley Arlene Bratager was born April 11, 1928, in Cummings, ND, the daughter of Bernt and Clara (Rensland) Bratager.  As a young girl she moved with her family to rural Winger, MN, where she was raised and attended country school.  She then moved to Minneapolis for a short time where she worked as a nanny, before returning home to be closer to family. 

She was united in marriage to Boyd Orlene Salveson, and they made their home on a farm near Winger where they farmed for many years.  They also owned and operated the Gorilla Café in Winger for a few years.  Boyd passed away in 1987.  Shirley continued to make her home in the Winger area.  It was during this time she worked as a laundry assistant in a local nursing home.  Shirley would later move to a home in Moorhead, before moving into the Fairmont Assisted living and then Lilac Homes Memory Care in Dilworth. 

Shirley enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, dancing, and car trips with her daughter to Winger.  She was known for her smile, always being happy and loved sitting in the sun.  Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them.     

Shirley is survived by her children, Marie Bunday, Santee, CA, Karen (Kent) Jacobson, Glyndon, MN, and Tim (Brenda) Salveson, Mora, MN; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd; son, Joey, granddaughter, Michele Trandem; great-grandsons, Grant Daley and Jared Wiener; brothers, Kenneth, Boyd and Lowell; and sister, Charlotte.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
