Sharon C. Gerlach, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in Bethany on University.

Sharon C. Gerlach, 81, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in Bethany on University, Fargo.

Sharon was born January 15, 1940, in Drake, ND, to Henry and Ann (Miiller) Sprenger. While growing up in Drake, Sharon assisted her family at the Empress Café, which her family owned and operated for many years. While working at the café, Sharon acquired a strong work ethic. Her family worked seven days a week, and you would often find Sharon and her siblings peeling potatoes and bussing tables. In 1954, the entire family moved to Moorhead, MN. Sharon graduated from Moorhead High School in 1957. Following high school, she furthered her education at St. Luke's School of Nursing, Fargo, ND, receiving her RN degree in 1959.

On October 15, 1960, Sharon was united in marriage to Albert William Gerlach at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. They started their family, welcoming three sons: Blaine in 1961, William in 1962 and Bryan in 1969. Along with working as a full-time nurse, Sharon was instrumental in her sons' lives. She never missed an activity they were participating in and was always their number one fan.

During her working career, Sharon served as a nurse for St. Luke's Hospital, Dakota Hospital, Villa Maria Nursing Home and completed her career with the Fargo VA Hospital. While working for the Veterans Hospital, she became a member of the nurse's union. She advocated for her fellow colleagues, serving as a union representative towards the end of her career. After 44 years, Sharon retired from nursing on July 1, 2003.

Sharon enjoyed her retirement years, staying active with her family. She was a natural giver, so spoiling her grandchildren came easy. If you visited Sharon, you were often greeted by her large Chesapeake Bay fur baby, "Cuda". Everyone knew that Cuda's main job in life was to protect Sharon, so just dropping by was not an option. Sharon's favorite time was celebrating the holidays with family. She was an avid sports fan, often cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Shanley Deacons.

Sharon was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and loving grandmother. Her smile and love for family will be missed, but knowing she is with her husband Al and her fur baby "Cuda" brings us a sense of calm and peace at such a sad time. The family would like to offer a special thanks of gratitude for all the staff at Bethany on University and Ethos Hospice Care.

Sharon is survived by her three sons, Blaine (Kathy) of Greer, SC, William (Gail) of Fargo, and Bryan (Shelly) of Moorhead; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harley (Terri) of Fargo and Lester (Eileen) of Denver, CO; along with many Sprenger nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Albert (2009)
