Roy R. Klinger, Jr. (“Junior”), age 78, passed away peacefully at home on Hospice in Moorhead, MN, on August 25, 2025.
Roy was born in Valley City, ND, to Roy Sr., and Lucille (Miller) Klinger. He was raised and educated in McVille, ND. Roy proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968, where his dedication and resilience earned the respect of his fellow soldiers. Upon returning home, Roy attended North Dakota State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked alongside his family at Klinger & Son’s John Deere Implement after Vietnam and college, where his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on customers and coworkers alike.
While at NDSU, Roy met Rosella (“Rosie”) Rausch Windingland. The two married in 1973 and together raised five children. On May 29, 1992, Roy married Margaret “Marge” Bernhardt, his loving partner of the past 33 years, and embraced a blended family that grew to include stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roy’s life was filled with hard work, generosity, and a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and he could often be found sharing stories, lending a hand to the less fortunate, and spending time with family. He served as the Treasurer for St. Vincent De Paul’s thrift store for many years. He was a proud veteran, a loyal friend, and a man of patience and faith whose quiet strength touched many lives.
Roy is survived by his wife, Marge; his children, Robert, Tiffany (Shane), Alan (Holly), Steve (Jodi), Cory (Gayle); stepchildren, Terri, Steve (Meagan), and Pat (Darcy); siblings, Jim, Gary, Kathy (Myron), and David (Kim); 15 beloved grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosie; his daughter, Angela Rose; and his parents, Roy and Lucille.
Visitation for Roy will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead from 4PM – 6PM with a Prayer Service at 6PM. Mass of Christian Burial will Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead. Interment will be in Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
Roy’s infectious smile and genuine laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
