RoseMary “Trosi” (Cariveau) Nyquist, age 77, of Fargo, ND, passed away on February 2, 2024, surrounded by her husband and three children, under the exceptional care of Beehive Homes and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Trosi was born on January 19, 1947, in Grand Forks, ND, to Earl and Edith (Holweger) Cariveau. She graduated from Dilworth High School in 1965 and after graduation she moved to California. After moving to California Trosi started a nearly 35-year career working for the phone company, starting as an operator and working up to an account executive. After moving back home, she married the love of her life, Gordon Nyquist, on September 28th, 1970. Together, they raised a family and built their life in Fargo.
Her love for life and laughter were contagious, and she had a knack for making everyone feel welcomed and included. Whether it was a family gathering, a social event, or just a casual chat over the phone, Trosi had the ability to turn ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. She especially loved her time at Star Lake where she hosted numerous family reunions that brought her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren together for week-long celebrations, lovingly donned “lake week.” Her time at the lake was some of her best memories, which included cruising around on the pontoon, taking a dip at the sandbar and late-night poker games. She cherished this time with family.
Trosi enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Some of her best adventures included her “Sister Trips” that took her to too many locations to list. She never missed an opportunity to play cards with her dearest friends, was active in her church, an avid Bison football fan, and adored musicals.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Gordon, and their children, Jared Nyquist (Audra), Fargo, ND, Rachael Johnson (Derek), Glyndon, MN, and Jessica Mickelson (Eric), Moorhead, MN; as well as three step-daughters, Lynn Bellmore (Brad) Pelican Rapids, MN, Leslie Stanley, London, OH, and Lori Nyquist (Marni Osofsky) Pflugerville, TX; her grandchildren, Andrew Nyquist, Dayne, Jordan and Caleb Johnson, Eben Fluto, Brandon and Brady Mickelson, Tyler Bellmore and Erica King, Casey Webb, Shelby Woolum and Michael Stanley, and Sarah Martin; fifteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Elaine Rosco, Rugby, ND, Barb Ebel, Eden Prarie, MN, Carol Lundy, Hampton, VA; and her brother, Rick Cariveau, Dilworth, MN;
Trosi was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Edith, as well as her brother, Dale.
While our hearts ache with the loss of this remarkable woman, we choose to remember Trosi with laughter and joy. She would want us to celebrate her life with smiles and maybe a few well-placed jokes.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Alzheimer’s Association in an effort to stop this disease from affecting future generations.
A Visitation for Trosi will begin on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10 AM, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead, MN, with a light lunch and time of fellowship after the service. Father Gary LaMoine will officiate the service and a livestream will be available on the funeral home’s website.
