Richard "Dick" Allen Schroeder, born on August 16, 1936, in Moorhead, Minnesota to Leroy "Buster" and Harleth (Hanson) Schroeder, passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2025, at the age of 89. He spent most of his life within two blocks of his childhood home in Dilworth, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school in 1954.

After graduation, Dick proudly served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in San Francisco, California, working diligently with classified documents. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Dilworth to start his career and family. On May 20, 1959, he married Irene Bjorgan in Webster, South Dakota, and together they raised four wonderful children: Curtis, Julie, Jodi, and Craig.

Dick was a gifted salesman, dedicating over 20 years to equipment sales at Westgo Truck Equipment, where he earned the lifelong nickname "Tricky Dick," and was well known on the KFGO radio ads. His hard work paid off in 1975 when he became the first Million Dollar Salesman for Westgo Truck Equipment. Although he and Irene were divorced, they were together most of their lives. They ran a little bar, Louie’s in Dilworth, for a short time. In 1973, owned and operated a women’s clothing store called MaeAlan’s located in the Holiday Mall, Moorhead.

In 1969, Dick bought a lake lot on Upper Cormorant and with the help of his family they built a cabin where the family spent every summer fishing, swimming, water skiing, campfires and many family gatherings. Dick was a true outdoorsman, from teaching his sons to duck/goose hunt and teaching all his kids how to deer hunt & fish. He loved fishing, in his boat and his icehouse in the winter. Each year, he hosted a fish fry for family and friends. Everyone always looked forward to that.

During his retirement, Dick opened a greenhouse in Dilworth, that he and Irene ran for years. Surprisingly, he didn’t know a marigold from a petunia, but with his crafty sales expertise he could sell anything to anyone!! He also had a very large garden that he sold fresh produce out of for years. He challenged himself to learn how to can his fresh produce and shared his canned goods with friends and family. A lifelong roller skater, and water skier, Dick was always up for a new challenge even learning how to golf at the age of 70.

Dick is survived by his four children: Curtis Schroeder of Dilworth, Julie (Al) Dykema of Dilworth, Jodi Schroeder of Hitterdal, MN, and Craig (Jodi) Schroeder of Elbow Lake, MN; as well as his grandchildren: Michael (Jodi) Lewis, Jake (Vanessa) Dykema, Tyler (Annie) Dykema, Emmy Dykema, Matthew (Stephanie) Albert, Benjamin (Tami) Albert, Shelby (Andy) Lyons, Taylah Schroeder, and Aubrie Schroeder, alongside 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Gene Schroeder of Lake Park, MN, Gordon Schroeder of Fargo, and Betty Lundon of Dilworth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Buster Schroeder and Harleth Mielke, his wife Irene in 2014, and siblings Leroy (Diane Walks) Schroeder Jr., Jerry Schroeder, and great-granddaughter Autumn.

Dick left this world after a beautiful Christmas with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
