Richard L. Olson, 64, West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.
Richard LeRoy Olson, son of Thorson and Alma B. (Edstrom) Olson, was born January 8, 1940, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fargo. The youngest of six children, Richard was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. He attended North Elementary School, West Fargo, and graduated from West Fargo High School in 1957. Richard drove semi for R&W Transfer, West Fargo, for several years. He later worked as a salesman for Pierce Printing Co., Fargo, from 1962 to 1963.
Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Westfall on July 6, 1962, at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo. The couple made their home in Fargo until moving to West Fargo in 1969.
Richard served as a Specialist Four in the United States Army from May 1963 to April 1965. He did his basic training at Fort Ord, CA. He was stationed with the Hq. Btry 1st Bn, 39th Arty in Augsburg, Germany. After his discharge he returned to Fargo.
From May 1965 to August 1977 Richard was service manager at Pierce Printing Co, AB Dick Division. He then was owner and operator of Sheyenne Lanes, West Fargo, from 1977 to 1995. He also worked at Fargo Assembly, Fargo, as a parts runner and in maintenance until his death. Richard was a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW Post #7564.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara, West Fargo; two sons, Wayne "Chris" Olson, Grand Forks, ND, and Trevor Jay Olson, Scottsdale, AZ; one sister, Imogene Hodges, Fargo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters.
