Richard “Dick” Lindgren, 94, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, in Lilac Homes, Dilworth, MN.
Richard Carl Lindgren was born December 29, 1930, the son of Carl and Grace (Jensen) Lindgren in Pierre, SD. He was raised in Philip, SD, and graduated from Philip High School in 1948. After graduation, Richard moved to Fargo, ND, and attended Hanson’s Auto Mechanic School. It was during this time while staying at the Rezac Boarding House, he met the love of his life, Rose Rezac.
In 1950, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Korean Conflict. While on a furlough, Richard and Rose were married on February 4, 1952, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo. After their marriage, Richard returned to the service, while Rose lived with her family. Upon his discharge in 1954, Richard returned to Fargo where they made their home for a period of time before settling in Moorhead. In 1957, Richard began his career with Fargo Foundry (now Mid America Steel) where he worked for 41 years, before retiring as shop foreman. After years of living in Moorhead, Richard and Rose moved to the McCann’s Addition, north of Moorhead, in 1988. where they lived for many years. In 2023, Richard moved to Lilac Homes in Dilworth.
He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and often donated his time and talent, Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Fargo. While a member he was President (1976-1977) and Past-President as well as being a part of the Fargo Eagles ritual team from 1972 to 1985.
Over the years, Richard enjoyed bowling and throwing horseshoes. He also had a passion for restoring pick-up trucks and was very proud of his restored 1972 Chevy C10 truck. This was also a hobby he was able to share with his grandsons. Richard also loved woodworking and crafted many wood projects over the years. Together with Rose, who took great pride in staining and varnishing the wood projects, they created many treasured possessions within their family.
Richard engaged in being playful and good natured with humor, teasing and a mischievous smile. As children all his family cherished Toodaloo, a special gesture which means see you later, and it has continued through the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard will be deeply missed by his children, Steve Lindgren, New Underwood, SD, Karen (Jeff) Baukol, Moorhead, and Lindy (Jim) Knapper, Ottertail, MN; son-in-law, John Baukol, Moorhead; grandchildren, Lacey (Kerry) Slaba, Seth (Jackie Jacobs) Lindgren, Nathan (Jess Baumgarten) Baukol, Jeremy (Jenni) Baukol, Nikki (Jarrod) Williams, Desi (Cody) Muscha, Mandy (Matt) Mangel, Mike (Kristi) Baukol, Matt Baukol, Jared Knapper and Heath (Amanda) Knapper; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Cruz Slaba, Emma, Gunnar and Molly Baukol, Mauer Baumgarten, Rylee and Reese Baukol, Samantha and Jaxon Mangel, Ryan and Kylie Baukol, and Kenzie, Sylis and Raylan Knapper; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years, Rose; daughter, Teresa “Terry” Baukol; daughter-in-law, Cheryl “Charlie” Lindgren; and sister, Bonnie Morrison.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the RRV and the staff at Lilac Homes for the love and care they provided for Richard while he was in their care.
At the family’s request, Memorials may be directed to Lilacs Homes or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A Visitation for Dick will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 9, 2025, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Moorhead. MN.
