Mildred "Milly" Hansen

Mildred "Milly" Hansen, 97, Dilworth, MN, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN.

Mildred was born December 2, 1923, in rural Driscoll, ND, to Adolph and Anna (Schoon) Hansen. Milly graduated from high school in Driscoll, ND, and attended three sessions of summer school at Valley City (ND) Teachers College. She went on to teach in rural schools for four years.

Millie was united in marriage to Lyle Hansen of Bismarck, ND, and they made their home in Bismarck where she worked for Provident Life Insurance Company, and in in 1953, moved to Dilworth. She worked for Lutheran Welfare in Fargo, ND, for three years. In 1958, she joined Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, and retired in 1983.

Milly married Ed Messerschmidt in 1968. She worked for Moorhead (MN) K-Mart in 1985 and 1986. She enjoyed flower gardening, bowling, crafts, dancing, and especially card games of all kinds. She also curled for four years. Milly was active in Dilworth Lutheran Church for many years.

Milly is survived by her son, Eugene "Chuck" (Jean) Hansen; grandchildren, Chad (Caren), and Kyle (Kami); great-grandchildren, Ty (Liz), Collin, Claire, Cooper, and Cassidy; brother, Miles "Butch" (Sharon); and a sister, Maryann (Len) Nelson.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Milly was preceded in death by her sisters, Christine and Darlene.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Dilworth Lutheran Church or Serenity Assisted Living, Dilworth.

Visitation will begin at 10 AM, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM, Saturday, August 7, 2021, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.
