Maxine Henderson, 79, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, in Fargo, ND.
Maxine was born in Halstad, MN on April 23, 1946, to Albert V. and Idelle (Norum) Johnson. Albert died when Maxine was only 11 months old. She spent her childhood in Halstad, MN and graduated from Halstad High School in 1964. She was baptized and confirmed at Halstad Lutheran Church.
Maxine married Mark Henderson of Halstad in 1974, and they made their home in Halstad for the next 29 years. Mark and Maxine had two daughters, Megan & Kristen.
Maxine graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, Fargo, ND, the Baylor University Medical Center Operating Room Administration Program, Dallas, TX, and North Dakota State University. Her nursing career included being an Operating Room Instructor at St. Luke's School of Nursing, Head Nurse of the Operating Rooms and member of the first open heart team at St. Luke's Hospital. After St. Luke’s, she was the Director of Nursing at Halstad Lutheran Memorial Home, Director of Clinical Services at Family Health Care Center in Fargo, and a National Faculty Member for the United States Health Resource and Finance Administration in Washington, DC. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
Maxine was a member of Halstad Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, was a member of the Senior Choir, served as accompanist for the Children's Choir, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Halstad Women's Club and the Happy Homemakers. In 2003, after moving to the Fargo-Moorhead area, Maxine became a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Mark; daughters, Megan (Peter) Benavidez, Carver, MN; and Kristen Henderson, Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Gabriella Benavidez; sisters-in-law, Linda Henderson, Cannon Falls, MN, Nan Lopatka, Caledonia, MI, Dana (Arlen) Larson, Climax, MN and Julie Sorenson, Plymouth, MN; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Greg Henderson, Neal Henderson, and Ted Lopatka; and her grandparents.
A gathering for family and friends of Maxine will begin at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, followed by a celebration of her life beginning at 2:00 PM, at Hope Lutheran Church South Campus, Fargo.
Inurnment in Halstad North Cemetery, will be at a later date.
