Marvin Raymond Weispfenning, 95, died peacefully at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead MN, on January 4, 2024.

Marvin Weispfenning was born the son of John and Olga (Messner) Weispfenning in Gackle, ND, on January 19, 1928 and was baptized on March 18, 1928.  In 1934, as a young boy he moved with his parents to Ypsilanti, ND, and they settled in Moorhead, MN in 1940, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

As a teenager, Marvin delivered the Minneapolis Tribune, the St. Paul Sunday paper and the morning Fargo Forum. At the age of 16, he began working part-time at Horvick Electric Motor Co. in Moorhead as an office assistant.

Marvin graduated from Moorhead High School in 1946 and enlisted in the US Army shortly after graduation. During his time in the Army he served in the Philippines, Korea and briefly in Japan and was honorably discharged in January 1948.

Shortly after returning to Moorhead, he met the love of his life, Marlys Jean Koeppe.  They were married on July 24, 1949, and they were blessed with five children.  Marvin then attended NDAC (now NDSU) and again worked part time at Horvick Electric.

In May 1952, Marvin graduated from NDAC with a major in economics and a minor in math.  Then in 1956, Ben Horvick offered his business for sale to five of his employees, including Marvin, who was the youngest.  After managing at Hovick’s for nearly 30 years, he later went to work for Jemco Electric and worked for 25 years as a motor repairman.

For more than 80 years, Marvin was a dedicated member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, volunteering and serving in many ways.  After retiring, Marvin continued to volunteer at his church.
