Martin C. Johnson

Martin C. “Marty” Johnson, 71, of Moorhead, MN, passed away, Thursday, October 12, 2023, in Sanford Health-West Campus, Fargo, ND.

Martin Conrad Johnson was born September 20, 1952, the son of Conrad and Katherine (Kost) Johnson in Moorhead.  He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School.   During and after high school he worked in a local Moorhead Restaurant before going to work for Silverline. 

After Silverline closed, Martin began working for the Fargo School District as a Custodial Engineer.   On September 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to Janice M. Brett in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead.  Martin and Janice then made their home together in Moorhead and he continued to work for Fargo Public School as a Head Custodial Engineer, retiring after more than twenty-five years of service.   

Martin enjoyed camping and fishing.  Janice and he worked well together in gardening and helping each other.  They loved many dogs and cats over the years.  The most recent was Buster.  His most exotic animals were a pet skunk and a pet rock.  He was known for his wit and loved visiting with others. Even after his death Martin had a chance to give to others by donating his corneas to the Dakota Lion’s Sight and Health. 

He is survived by his brother, Maynard (Eileen) Johnson of Moorhead; sisters-in-laws, Carolyn Johnson, Moorhead, Myrna Johnson, Vergas, MN, and Gail Johnson, Moorhead; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; and brothers, Allan, Donald, and Curtis. 

A Visitation for Martin will be on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM, Prayer Service, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. 

His Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. 

Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
