Marlene F. Johnson, 85, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, in Sanford Heath Broadway Campus, Fargo.

Marlene Fay Anderson along with her twin brother, Merlin Ray, were born January 15, 1938, the daughter of Oel and Marie (DeRaad) Anderson, at home in rural Greenbush, MN, during a snowstorm.  She grew up in Greenbush where she was confirmed in Bethel Lutheran Church and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1956. 

On June 6, 1959, Marlene was united in marriage to Lester Johnson in Greenbush, MN.  They made their home in Moorhead where she was employed by Lutheran Social Services, LHHS Federal Credit Union and spent the last seventeen years at Midland Hospital Supply in Fargo.  Lester passed away on January 27, 2014.

Marlene was a very active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Confirmation, served on the Church Council, Education Committee, WELCA Bible Retreat Board, as an officer on the Women’s Board and was the New Life Center Auxiliary Representative.  She was also active with the Altar Guild, Prayer Chain, Visitation Communion Ministry and attended Bible Study International for several years.  She was a Campfire Leader for fifteen years and a PTO Officer at Lincoln School for ten years. 

Marlene was a wonderful mother and a very involved grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved to bake and share her baking with her family and friends.  She was also very good at crafts and shared her talents.

She is survived by her children, Michelle (Bradley) Bohm, Blanchard, ND, Todd (Sharon) Johnson, and Marla Johnson, both of Fargo; grandchildren, Cassie (Adam) Welter, Amanda (Tawnie) Solem, Matthew (Mikkel) Bohm, Michael Bohm, Samantha (Josh) Keller, Catherine Johnson, and Devin and Kyra Hillman; step-granddaughter, Jessica (Shane) Mayo; great-grandchildren, Addison, Easton and Theodore Welter, Greysen Hillman and Grayden Bohm; step-great-grandchildren, Tristan, Isaac and Ariella Hayes; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Anderson, Lake Bronson, MN, and Maxine Anderson, Boston, MA; brother-in-law, Curtiss Johnson, Greenbush; three nephews and two nieces. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; twin brother, Merlin Ray; brother, Odeen; sister, Clydene; nephew, Richard Anderson; and nieces, Cyndi Anderson and Melissa Anderson.

Marlene will be missed by all who knew her.

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Marlene will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with at 6:30 PM, Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.

A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be 2 PM, Friday, January 27, 2023, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Burial will take place in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.
