Marjorie M. Thompson

March 21, 1942 — June 8, 2021

Marjorie (known as Margie) Mae Johnson was born March 21, 1942, in Fargo, ND, to Algot and Carrie (Hansen) Johnson. Margie was raised in Hawley, MN, where she graduated from Hawley High School in 1960. While in high school she worked at the Riverside Inn in Hawley. After graduating, she moved to Minneapolis, MN, for a short period of time to attend beauty school.

Margie returned to Hawley and began working at the Hawley Creamery as a bookkeeper, as well as the Riverside Inn. It was at the Riverside Inn that she met Marvis Thompson. They married September 6, 1964, in Hawley Lutheran Church. They made their home in Hawley, MN.

Margie and Marvis moved to Perley, MN, in 1970. She was a bookkeeper at the Cenex station in Perley and worked the scale house at the Beet Piler in Perley during the beet harvest season. The job outside of the home that Margie enjoyed the most was being the Postmaster at the Perley Post Office. She always showed up early at the post office to make sure all mail was sorted and in everyone's post office box before opening. People loved her welcoming smile and visiting with her.

After retiring from the post office, she continued to stay active in the community and with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures. She was a selfless person who always put her family and faith above all else. She never missed one of her children's activities and attended all of her grandchildren's events she was able to. She was a longtime member of Kirkebo Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for 20+ years, wrote the church newsletter, attended Women's Bible study, ladies aid and made numerous quilts with the ladies at the church. Her faith was second to none, and read the Bible daily, if not twice a day. She loved to bake, cook, garden and was always up for a good game of cards. Pinochle with her dad and siblings was a favorite along with a good game of whist with her children.

Margie died Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in Sanford Health, Fargo, with her family at her side at seventy-nine years of age. She will be dearly missed by so many.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Marvis; children, Kevin (Jill) Thompson, Menahga, MN, Deanne (Todd) Warner, West Fargo, ND, Darren (Rosy) Thompson, Bozeman, MT, and Kent Thompson, Horace, ND; seven grandchildren; siblings, Marie Holm, Janet (Vern) Crabtree, Diane (Harlan) Hovelson, Ginger Tangen, Fran (Bill) Richter, Gary Johnson, Kathrine (Kenneth) Dahl, and Darrell Johnson; sisters-in-law, Karen Johnson, and Jeannie Johnson.
