Marjorie J Eia

October 1, 1935 — June 7, 2026

Shelly, MN

Marjorie J. Eia died June 7, 2026, in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Marjorie was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on October 1, 1935, to Henry and Ella (Johnson) Johnson. She grew up in Dalton, Minnesota with her brother, Neal, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. After high school she attended Moorhead State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.

Marge began her teaching career in Benson, Minnesota. Next, she taught in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where she met Martin “Hawley” Eia. They married on August 18, 1963. After moving to Moorhead, she devoted her life to raising her three daughters, Cheryl, Kimberly and Jennifer. When all the girls were in school full-time, Marge returned to teaching as a substitute in the Moorhead and Fargo Public Schools. Later, she shared her knowledge of teaching with beginning teachers while supervising student teachers for Moorhead State University.

After Martin’s retirement, they split their time between Pharr, Texas and their farm near Shelly, Minnesota. Marge returned to teaching full-time in the PSJA School District. Following Martin’s death in 2000, Marge continued to spend winters in Texas and summers in Minnesota. She enjoyed her life on the farm, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, quilting, participating in WELCA, managing volunteers at the Shelly Library Link site in Shelly, and keeping the farmstead mowed and trimmed.

Marge moved to Eagan in 2019 to be closer to family. She continued to be involved in all sorts of crafting activities and helped set up the library in her senior living community.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Hawley, and parents, Henry and Ella Johnson. She is survived by her daughters; Cheryl, Kimberly (Derek), and Jennifer (Saeed); grandchildren Alex, Thomas (Jacqueline), Sammy, Katherine (fiancé Bradyn); brother, Neal (Joyce) and many nieces and nephews.
