Lyle Skyberg Hanson was born May 28, 1934, to Valdene (Skyberg) and Antone Hanson, the seventh of eight children. He died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the age of 92, in Lilac Homes, Dilworth, MN.
Lyle graduated as class valedictorian from Elbow Lake High School in 1952 and attended Concordia College where he majored in music education, graduating in 1956. He sang in the Concordia Choir under Paul J. Christianson for four years. He married Romelda Braaten on August 19, 1956, and taught high school vocal music in Ellsworth, MN, Battle Lake, MN and Pelican Rapids, MN. They moved to Moorhead in 1974 where he sold real estate for many years and also worked for the Forum.
Lyle loved to fish, hunt, garden, golf and was a trained piano tuner. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. Lyle served the church teaching the Bethel Bible Series, serving as counsel president and as a confirmation teacher and mentor. He was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Moorhead where he was the choir director for forty years. After retirement from choral music, he focused his witness in sharing his faith through his work with the Gideons. Lyle spent many years as a faithful Gideon and found great joy in preaching and visiting with pastors and congregations.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Romelda; his daughter, Rev. Debra Benson; brothers, Richard and Victor; sisters, Kathryn, Lucille, Dorothy and Ruth; infant son, Bruce; and infant grandson, Andrew.
He is survived by his sons, Jon Hanson (Linda) of San Jose, CA and Larry (Shannon) Hanson of Alexandria, MN; granddaughters, Felicia Hanson, San Jose CA, Kayla (Ryan) Hoel of Minneapolis, Kathryn Benson (Greg Krathwohl) of Sausalito, CA, and Emily & Anna Hanson of Alexandria, MN; grandson, Erik Hanson, San Jose, CA; two great-grandsons, Jackson and Soren Hoel and one great-granddaughter, Kiera Hoel; son-in-law, Lewis Benson, Mt. Vernon, WA; and his brother, Gene (Myrna) Hanson of Dalton, MN.
Memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Concordia College, Luther Seminary or the Gideons.
Funeral services for Lyle will be Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2PM, with visitation starting at 12:30PM in The Lutheran Church of Christ The King, Moorhead, MN.
