Leonard Jay Larson was born on September 9, 1950, to Roy Vernon and Anita Jean (Stone) Larson in Tacoma, Washington. At a young age, his family moved to Cloquet, Minnesota, where he was raised and received his education.
Following his graduation from high school, Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Using his mechanical aptitude as an aircraft mechanic, he spent much of his military service stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, helping keep naval aircraft missions ready. It was also where he celebrated the birth of his son, John Jay.
After completing his military service, Leonard's journey took him to several parts of the country, including Georgia, Florida, and Minnesota. Along the way, he worked in forestry with the Voyagers Forestry program before eventually settling into other careers.
In 1982, Leonard married Amy (Gunnerson) Dicks. Together they welcomed two daughters, Heidi and Katie, who remained a source of pride throughout his life. While living in International Falls, Minnesota, Leonard served his community as a paramedic, a role that reflected his willingness to help others during their times of greatest need.
Following his divorce, Leonard moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, where he joined the maintenance department at North Dakota State University. He took pride in his work there and enjoyed the friendships he made over the years. About 25 years ago, Leonard met Beckie Bullock, and the two shared a loving and devoted partnership that remained an important part of his life.
Leonard was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed following the sport whenever he could. He also looked forward to playing bingo, spending time with friends at the local pub, and sharing stories and laughter with those around him. He appreciated life's simple pleasures and valued the friendships he built throughout the years.
He is survived by significant other Becki Bullock, of Moorhead, MN; two daughters: Heidi (Casey Youngblood) Larson of Summerville, SC, and Katie (Sean) O’Neal of Darien, GA and son: John Lingner of Waterbury, CT. Three brothers: Allen (Jenice) Larson of Duluth, MN, David (Gala) Olson of Duluth, MN, and Stephen Larson of Proctor, MN. Three granddaughters and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Anita Jean Larson, and one sister Donna (Martin) Otto.
