Leo J. Wald, 83, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, June 5, 2020, at Serenity Assisted Living, Dilworth, MN, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Leo Joseph Wald was born August 2, 1936, in Lakota, ND, the son of Joseph and Christine (Klein) Wald. The family moved to Crookston, MN, and Leo was educated at Cathedral Catholic School for elementary and high school. After High School, Leo worked various jobs in the Crookston area.
On December 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Diane Ricard in Crookston and she remained the love of his life for 62 years. For some time, Leo, and his brother, owned and operated an upholstery shop before he went to work for the Singer Co. for seventeen years. He then worked for Ecolab until he retired at the age of 59. After retirement, Leo and Diane continued to live in Moorhead where he was active with the Charitable Concerns Committee of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In 2017, they moved to Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth.
Leo was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church serving in many leadership roles over the years and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his Cursillo Men's Group and golfing with friends. In their younger years, Leo and Diane loved square dancing.
Leo is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Greg (Jan) Wald, Bloomington, MN, Susan (Mark) Hamilton, Rugby, ND, Daniel (Diane) Wald, Shoreview, MN, Randall (Paula) Wald, Moorhead, Timothy (Terri) Wald, White Bear Lake, MN, and Kelley (Bruce) Olenick, Pocatello, ID; 16 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sister, Joanne (Larry) Ranum, Crookston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gerald.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 8, 2020 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead with visitation one hour prior to his service. Please follow social distancing guidelines set by the church.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
