Kevin James Schwab departed this earthly life on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Shiloh Assisted Care Center in Pequot Lakes, MN. Kevin was born on September 3, 1959, the son of Adrian and Geneva Schwab in Devils Lake, ND. In 1965, the family moved to Moorhead, MN where he was the oldest of five siblings. Kevin graduated from Moorhead High School in 1977. Kevin spent most of his career working at Abbott, Arne and Schwindt as a heavy equipment operator installing septic systems working his way up to foreman. He would also work for two years in Devils Lake helping build the dike around the lake.

Kevin married Kari Agnew in 1984 and they adopted their son, Keanen in 1992. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they remained friends throughout the years. Even a few weeks ago during a visit with Kevin, Kari shared many stories about her and Kevin to Keanen and his grandson, Emmitt. Kari even had Kevin smiling and laughing.

On many weekends during his leisure time, Kevin enjoyed camping and fishing. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and was able to attend a few games over the years. Kevin also had a love and passion for Rock N Roll music and was the sound man for many local bands, the most memorable band was Dexter. The band members, which he kept in touch with until the end, called him “Schmo”. Five years ago, the Forum wrote a follow-up story on the band about what they were doing currently.

Kevin was diagnosed with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome two and half years ago and had since been living at Shiloh Assisted Care Living. While living at Shiloh, Kevin loved bingo days, summer fishing and when a music group came to play. He once called and told his family that he needed new sneakers as he danced his soles off his shoes. He was also helpful to the ladies with Parkinson’s, helping them do their art projects so they weren’t messy. Kevin was recently diagnosed with lung and liver cancer, and our family is grateful for St. Croix Hospice and the staff at Shiloh for the great care he received in his last weeks.

He is survived by his son, Keanan and grandson, Emmitt of Dilworth, MN; siblings and their spouses, Dave and Stacy Schwab, Fargo, Brad and Patty Schwab. Moorhead, Doug and Jen Schwab, Blaine, MN and Kathy and Kevin Matsui, Farmington, MN; his former spouse, Kari Schwab, Dilworth; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Ted and Geneva Kimmes and Dennis and Marie Schwab.

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Kevin will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 29, 2026, followed by a Celebration of His Life at 11:00 AM, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. Kevin will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moorhead.
