Ken Lucier of Moorhead, MN, left this world on June 19, 2025, at home surrounded by family under the care of HIA Hospice after a long battle with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer.

He was born on March 15, 1948, to Richard and Yvonne Lucier of Brimfield, MA. After graduating from high school there, he attended Assumption College before leaving to work as a back-office employee on Wall Street for 4 years.

Following that, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1973, during which time he met and married Lois Nelson of Rugby, North Dakota, on May 25, 1974. The couple were married 51 years and had 4 children and 20 grandchildren.

As a young father and non-commissioned officer, Ken was selected for Operation Bootstrap, which enabled him to achieve his BS in Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento. He then became a USAF budget officer. He twice took an oath to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution; an oath he took seriously his whole life.

Upon leaving the USAF, Ken became an account executive at Dain Bosworth in Fargo, ND, before joining the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2006.

Ken was a humble servant of the Lord, with faith, family, and freedom as his top priorities. Knowing that he was a sinner saved by grace, he was deeply appreciative of the Lord's great mercy, as well as the mercy of those around him. That compelled him to lovingly serve others in difficult situations, serving as a volunteer and board member of Open Doors 65 from 2010 to present. He also served on the board of Youth for Christ and was active in his faith communities as a small group leader and Sunday school facilitator. He strongly believed that Christians should be involved in the public sphere and ran unsuccessfully for school board and Congress. He served as chair of the Clay County Republicans, on the board of Congressional District 7 and enjoyed being an alternate delegate at the 2012 Republican convention. His passion was to support life and abundant life to the preborn.

Ken lived life as an "also ran," in the political arena and in sports. He was a NCAA decathlete, completed the second New York City marathon, and continued competing in the later stages of his life, winning gold and silver medals in the National State Games of America.

His father had told him, "Don't worry about what you can't do, just do the best at what you can do," so when heart disease kept him from running and competing, he returned to his first love, rowing. He won the Central States indoor rowing championships in 2006 and 2012. The sound of a bat on a ball was a favorite, whether as a child playing baseball with his buddies in his beloved East Brimfield, MA, church league softball or simply pitching to his grandchildren.

Ken was a lifelong philatelist and baseball card collector. He loved his family and family research and authored two books, Stitches in Time as Eternity Dawns, and History of East Brimfield and the Lost Village. He was a natural storyteller and poet, and often had his grandchildren, as well as even reluctant adults, in stitches with his humorous stories and quips.

Ken is survived by his wife, Lois, as well as his four children: Brian (Lisa) of Rochester, MN, Susan (Leif) Lothe of Håvik, Norway, Kevin (Hanne) of Rochester, MN, and Kristen (Steve) Hill of Marlow, OK. His 20 grandchildren were a great delight to him: Chase & Evan Lucier; Daniel, Miriam and Adina Lothe; Michael, Victoria, Madeline and Kaia Lucier; Alayna (Noah) Tolbert; Micah, David, Isabel, Jonathan, Caleb, Levi, Olivia, Ensley, Ulyssa, and Yulia Hill. He is also survived by siblings, Russ (Lea) Lucier and Janet (Craig) Gralley, sister-in-law Jane Gallagher and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother George

Memorials may be directed to Open Doors 65, The Women’s Care Center and The Perry Center.
