Moorhead, MN

Karen Joyce Vosburg, 73, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center. She was born September 22, 1952 in Lisbon, ND. Karen was the first born child to Vernon and Pearlene Vosburg and the family moved to Fargo, ND when she was an infant.

Karen graduated from Fargo North High School in 1971. She attended North Dakota State University, was inducted into Mortar Board and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Science and Mathematics in 1975. During college, she spent summers working in the polymers and coatings industry in California and Illinois. They were very impressed with her work.

Karen returned home and worked various jobs until beginning employment at the United States Postal Service in December 1980. She worked there over 40 years until retiring as a postage due clerk in June 2021.

Karen had a happy childhood growing up in a fun, busy household which eventually included seven siblings whom she adored. She enjoyed camping, loved animals and looked forward to spending 2 weeks on the family farm each summer. Her sister, Connie, and she were close in age and did everything together including purchasing their first car. She was also very involved in caring for the younger siblings and taking them to fun places. Karen loved her family and sharing stories of them.

Karen was a very inquisitive person who loved to read fantasy novels and watch Disney and science fiction movies. She also enjoyed her garden and the wildlife around her home. Many of the charities she supported included animal rescues and food banks.

Karen had many talents. She crocheted and knitted numerous items for family and friends including heirloom dresses and she sewed Barbie clothes for her younger sisters and nieces. She looked forward to creating elaborate outfits for the annual “Dress a Doll” contest at Bell Bank, which were displayed and subsequently donated. She was also musically talented as a vocalist and pianist and played the viola in school.

Karen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in the temple. She played piano for the Sunday School for many years and she worked in the church’s Family History Center for 40 years. She was very patient and taught many people how to research their family history.

Karen learned the Norwegian language enabling her to further her research into her family’s Norwegian heritage. Her fascination with family history led her to Norway to view genealogy records there.

Many people knew Karen as the sweetest person they had ever known. She will be deeply missed.
