Joanne A. Fobes

Joanne A. Fobes, 88, Moorhead, MN, passed peacefully Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at her residence and under the care of Hospice.

Joanne Alice Peterson was born December 10, 1935, to Edwin and Alice (Gee) Peterson.   She was raised in Glyndon, MN and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1954.  On April 28, 1956, Joanne was united in marriage to James “Jim” Fobes at 1^st Congregational Church in Glyndon.   They made their home in Glyndon raising their two children, Pennie and Jeff.  During her working career, Joanne worked for General Nutrition in Fargo, where she worked on the assembly line for 10 years.  

Joanne was a wonderful homemaker.  She made the best homemade pizza, caramel rolls and cookies.  Each summer she tended to her garden and enjoyed canning in the fall.  Joanne enjoyed bowling for many years.  She also enjoyed playing cards, dice and marbles with her family and friends.  In her spare time, she taught Sunday School and volunteered at her church for bazaars, funeral luncheons and weddings, making a lot of food and washing many dishes through the years.  

Joanne will be remembered and missed by her children, Pennie Raftevold (Dan Busche), and Jeff Fobes both of Moorhead, MN; four grandchildren, Ashley (Justin), James (Kasey), Katie (Nate), and Travis; along with seven great-grandchildren, Allaina JoLynn, Trenton Nathan, Adilynn Kate, Troy Wesley, Greyson Paul, Ryker James, and Emery Reign; and sister-in-law, Glenda; and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James; her parents; one brother, Donald “Sonny”; sisters-in-law, Thelma, Evelyn, and Joanne; brothers-in-law, William “Bill”, Shirley, Maurie, and Dennis.   

Joanne’s family would like to extend a heart felt “Thank You” to Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful care and support they gave Joanne during her final days.  

Visitation for Joanne will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, starting at 5pm and continuing until the time of her funeral service at 6pm.  Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Glyndon.   A livestream will be available on this page by clicking the livestream link.
