Joanne N. Erickson

Joanne N. Erickson, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 22, 2026, at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center.

Joanne was born on December 17, 1949, to Leonard and Nelda (Weber) Hoeckle in Jamestown, North Dakota. She was born during a North Dakota blizzard, which left her father unable to see her or his wife until mid-January due to blizzard conditions and blocked roads.

Joanne lived on a farm in the Pingree, ND area and later moved to a farm southwest of Jamestown, where she assisted her parents in the farming operations.

After attending K-8 at the area’s one-room schoolhouse, she attended Jamestown High School. Following her childhood dream of becoming a nurse, Joanne began her nursing education at Central College in Kansas for two years before graduating from the University of Jamestown.

It was at the university where she met David Erickson while attending InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and a Christian youth group called Reach Out. Joanne was instrumental in this group that provided music and ministry to several churches across North Dakota and Minnesota during her college years.

Joanne was a gifted soloist, singing at various churches and on the McCoy Radio ministry program for many years in her youth. She continued singing and sharing her love for Jesus at every opportunity provided, including at her own wedding.

With her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Joanne strived to be the best nurse she could be. She completed specialized training and gained extensive experience in cardiac care, orthopedics, ICU, ER, pediatrics, and drew on these skills for twenty-four years in Home Health Care. She served patients in Jamestown, Essentia Health and Dakota Hospital in Fargo, Phoenix/Scottsdale, Faribault, Fairview Southdale in Edina, and Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Nursing was her passion, and she was quick to help anyone in need of healthcare and always ready to share stories from her wealth of experiences.

Joanne greatly loved her children and grandchildren and cherished hosting friends and family over the years. If there was an athletic or school event, Joanne was right there in the stands cheering enthusiastically. Entertaining at family events and holidays was exceptionally special to her.

As her family grew, vacations and road trips were always eagerly anticipated. She particularly enjoyed visiting all 48 contiguous states with Dave.

But most important to Joanne was her faith. Ever since dedicating her life to Jesus as her Savior and Lord at a Bible Camp in Jamestown in 1970, she carried a lifelong passion to share Jesus’ love with anyone who would listen, knowing eternity is in the balance. Her greatest desire was to see all her family and friends in Heaven with her.

Additionally, she taught Sunday School and served on many church youth committees, even chaperoning a youth trip to California.

Joanne began her battle with cancer in 2020 and remained brave, positive, and upbeat until her bone marrow could no longer keep up. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to all the caregivers who attended to her over the years.

She is survived by her husband of 53 ½ years, David Erickson; her children, Matthew (Martha Grundyson), Elizabeth (Loren) Sadlack, and Timothy (Alisha Woessner); her grandchildren, Karisa, David, Liesl, Cora, Sadie, Brooklyn, Sydney, and Dylan; her sisters, Cathy (Randy) Hoeckle-Schlecht of Jamestown, ND, and Cheryl (Steve) Berman; alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Wallace and Jewell Erickson; her brother-in-law, Gerry; her sister-in-law, Linda Olson; her brother-in-law, James Olson; and her granddaughter, Anna Jewell Erickson.

Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks for the love and prayers shared during Joanne’s long battle with illness, and for your many expressions of sympathy following her passing. We find peace and joy knowing Joanne is in the presence of Jesus, her Savior and Lord, and reunited with many loved ones in Heaven.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 3PM – 6PM with a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at 5:30PM in Oak Hill Church in Bloomington, MN. Joanne’s funeral service will be Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 1PM at Oak Hill Church. A gathering of friends and family will also be held October 7, 2026, in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church – East Campus in Moorhead, MN from 9AM – 10:30AM, followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30AM.  Interment will be in Oak Mound Cemetery, Kragnes, MN.
