Jean M. Emery

January 3, 1933 — June 15, 2021

Jean Martha Emery was born January 3, 1933, the youngest of six children, to Carl and Freida (Sandberg) Emery of Gardner, ND. She was baptized January 13, 1934, and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church in May 1951.

In high school, Jean played basketball and took the state championship in the 1950s. She graduated from Gardner High School and took one year of bookkeeping at Dakota Business College, Fargo, ND.

Her many jobs over the years included assistant cook at Gardner Schools, working with Aunt Ida, and several years at A & T Supply, Moorhead, MN.

While still living in Gardner, she helped care for her Mom and aunt Ida prior to their deaths. She moved into the Fargo High Rise and later University Manor, where she resided for 20 years. As her health declined, she moved into Bethany on University, Bethany on 42nd and to Ecumen Evergreens, all in Fargo, just one year ago. She was an active member at Nora Lutheran Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl Robert "Bob" Emery, who died at the Normandy Invasion, brother, John Marvin "Jack" Emery, who perished on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, and her three sisters, Esther (Oscar) Bjornson of Milton ND, and Betty (Irv) Halverson, and Helen (Meryl) Mulvaney, both of Fargo.

Jean was never married but took great interest in her many nieces and nephews. Jean always loved horses and had quite a collection of books and pictures of horses.

Jean died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Ecumen Evergreen in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at 88 years of age.

A graveside service for Jean will be Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 4 PM, in Nora Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gardner, ND. Memorials are preferred to Perley Parish or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
