Janice M. Brendemuhl, 79, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, in her home at RiverPointe, Moorhead, surrounded by family.
Janice Marie Richards was born May 24, 1939, to Arnold and Ann (Kolosky) Richards at their family home in Georgetown, MN. She was raised there and graduated from Moorhead High School. Janice and Morton Brendemuhl were married July 17, 1965, in Georgetown and the couple farmed in Kragnes, MN, for 38 years before moving to Moorhead in the spring of 2002.
Jan loved and took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many of her days sharing her love of cards and spending all the time she could with her family. Jan passed on her love of cooking and baking, an important tradition, to her kids and grandkids, as well as a profound love for her favorite card games like 65 and canasta.
She was an avid Twins fan and earned the title of National Lefse Champion with her friend Helen Kassenborg in 1998. Jan and Mort enjoyed their travels with close friends, Dick and Mavis Wang, Allan and Helen Kassenborg, and Dave and Rhoda Viker in the "Atlas Club." Always a kind and calming presence, she was a master baby- snuggler, and could put anyone to sleep with her "Biloh Biloh" lullaby.
Janice will be dearly missed by her husband of 53 years, Morton; children, Mike (Trish) Brendemuhl, Lake Park, MN, Irene (Dan) Bertils, Crookston, MN, Duane (Michelle) Brendemuhl, Moorhead, Janell (Marc) Hartjen, Moorhead, and Kari Jo (Lyle) Kantrovich, Delano, MN; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Allan (Gladys)
Richards, Hastings, MN, and Larry (Kathy) Richards, Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Brendemuhl who passed away in 1966; parents; brothers, Don, Joe, and Clayton Richards; and sister; Geraldine Anderson.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A Visitation for Janice will be Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 7, 2019, at 1:00 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
A private burial will take place in Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown, MN.
