Janis Anderson, age 72, of Barnesville passed away Friday afternoon May 23, 2025 surrounded by some of her favorite people.
A graduate of Barnesville High School, Janis went on to earn her nursing degree from the North Dakota State School of Science, where she dedicated her career to caring for others. She worked as a nurse on the float team at St. Luke’s, Meritcare, and later at the walk-in clinic. Her passion for nurturing extended far beyond her profession; she had a profound love for her animals. From horses who would always come right to her, to her loyal dog Kirby and her cherished cats, animals were an essential part of Jan’s life.
Known for her creative touch, Janis had a knack for decorating and crafting. She delighted in flower gardening, shopping at thrift stores, and scouring flea markets for treasures. If you were lucky enough to receive a Christmas gift from Jan, you knew it would be wrapped exquisitely, showcasing her talent and attention to detail. She was a collector at heart, with a fondness for Fiesta ware and Robinson Ransbottom pottery. A perfect example of her lively spirit is the day that her niece Sandra was visiting and found Jan riding a tractor.
Janis is survived by her longtime partner, Earl Thomas; her daughter Heidi Ferguson, grandson Blake (Samantha) Ferguson, granddaughter Emma Ferguson, and her precious great-granddaughter Vivian. She is also fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, and her brother John (Chris)
Janis is preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtice, her sister Phyllis (Richard) Peppel, and her brother Richard Anderson.
Honoring her wishes her family and friends will gather privately to celebrate her life.
A special thank you to her nurse nieces: Ruth Bernier, Amy Reep and Molly Byrne who took great care of her in her final days, as well as Hospice of the Red River Valley; Earl and his daughters, his brother Darryl and friend Don. You are all gratefully appreciated!
