Janet C. Colton

Janet Charmaine Colton, 78, passed away on August 18, 2025.

Janet was born on November 13, 1946, in Valley City, North Dakota to Alex and Louise Johnson. She graduated from Lamoure High School in 1964. She worked as a hairdresser from 1965 to 1984. In her late thirties, Janet returned to school, graduating from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton with a degree in Computer Science. She went on to work at Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois, where she remained until her retirement.

Janet enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to the many plants on her patio, shopping at thrift and consignment shops, and working on craft projects and sewing.

Janet is survived by her loving sisters Judith Oldenburg (Fernando), Ramona Yohe (Lance), and Sonya Albertson (Gene) and their families. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her two children, Elizabeth and Joseph and their families:

• Nicole Nordhougen (Daniel) and daughters Neeva and Alaina
• Melinda Gendotti and children Isabela (Seth, with children Sybil and Milo), Nadia, David, Johnathan, Christian, and Michael
• Gabriel Schwanke (Tori Pierce) and sons William and James
• Dawson Schwanke

• Joseph Little
• Jesse Little (Morgan Anderson) and daughter Oaklea
• Blake Little
• Brooke Little (Trevor Zins) and daughters Lilly and Kollyns
• Bailey Little

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Louise Johnson; her ex-husband, Wayne Little; her son-in-law David Schwanke; and her grandson, Chad Schwanke

Janet, or Grandma Tiny as her grandchildren called her, was a three-time cancer survivor. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

A prayer service, followed by lunch, will be held for Janet on Saturday August 30, 2025, from 1-3 at Riverview Place 5300 12th St. S., Fargo, ND 58104.
