Irene V. Johnson, 97, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
Irene V. Johnson, 97, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Edgewood Vista, Fargo, under the wonderful and loving care of Hospice.
Irene Violet Benson was born May 23, 1924, in Zap, ND, to Nels and Lillian (Olson) Benson. In 1929, Irene and her family moved to Oakdale, ND, where she grew up and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1942. After high school, she moved to Bismarck, ND, and attended Bismarck Commercial College. In 1948, Irene moved to Fargo. On February 17, 1951, Irene was united in marriage to Morris Johnson. Irene and Morris had four children, Debra Ann, Jacalyn, Julie and Jay. She was a longtime member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Irene was active in many church circles over the years and valued the friendships she made. Her monthly birthday group meetings were special to her as it allowed her to celebrate and get together with friends.
Irene cherished and took great pride in caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. Many summers were filled with fun on Lake Lida. Her homemade meals and baking were a few of her many talents, but most importantly, her ability to make you feel loved and welcomed. She was a wonderful homemaker and hostess. Irene made sure if you came to visit, you left with a full belly and a warm heart.
Irene is survived by Jackie (Brian) Jones, Julie Johnson and Jay Johnson; her grandchildren, Jocelyn (Edward) Triplett, Dena (Dustin) Van Hofwegen, Kendra (Christopher) Byrnes, Domenic (Haley) Jones, Brie (Blake) Schichel, and Emily (Joseph) Hess; great-grandchildren, Carina and Anika Van Hofwegen, Evette and Lily Jones, Callan and Blair Schichel.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Debra; her parents; her husband, Morris (2003), and her brother Gordon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Pontoppidan Lutheran Church at 309 4th St N, Fargo, ND 58102 or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation for Irene will be Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5pm-7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 1pm in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
