Irene R. Cook, 90, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Irene, daughter of Ewald and Dorothea Klug, was born August 28, 1913, in Leaf Valley, MN. She was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, moving with her parents to Sabin, MN, at the age of six. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, in 1927, and graduated from School District No. 28 in 1928. She married Robert D. Cook on April 15, 1936. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his death in 1998. They farmed in Clay County for 52 years before moving to the Homestead in Village Green in Moorhead. She resided at Eventide Linden Tree Circle in Moorhead the past four years.
Irene was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, active in the Ladies Aid, Circle and Bible Study. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Farm Bureau, and Homemakers Guild. She and her husband received many awards for their community activities including the North Dakota University Agriculture award and Clay County Farmer of the Year award.
Survivors include her eight children and their spouses; Robert James and Beverly Cook of Pullman, WA, Cherryll and Kenneth Hoffman of Sioux City, IA, Jerry and Ione Cook of Fargo, Janith and James Ness of Moorhead, Kathryn and James Miller of Park Rapids, MN, Lowell and Joanne Cook of Fargo, Dwight and Shirley Cook of Mandan, ND, and Doris and Mark Mancell of Fairmont, MN; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. Irene is also survived by two brothers, Jennings (Olivia) Klug, Minot, ND, and Elton (Lois) Klug, Chanhassen, MN; two sisters, Ruth Thunberg, Alexandria, MN, and Delda Ash, Boise, ID; three sisters-in-law, Alma and Margie Klug, Fargo, and Delores Klug, Moorhead; and one brother-in-law, Robert Patzman, Bloomington, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Troy Cook; four brothers, Clarence, Hubert, Waldo, and Ben Vern; two sisters, Leona Overby and Florence Patzman; and three brothers-in-law, Arther Overby, John Ash, and Ray Thunberg.
Visitation: Tuesday, 4 PM to 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Prayer service: Tuesday at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 2 PM, Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin.
Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Sabin.
