Ione M. Smith, 99, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, May 15, 2021, in Arbor Park Assisted Living, Moorhead.

Ione Margene Oscarson was born February 2, 1922, in Abercrombie, ND, to Jacob and Ida Oscarson. She grew up in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School. Soon after high school, Ione was united in marriage to Erling Smith on May 21, 1940. They resided in Moorhead and started a family.

When her children were older, Ione worked for Dr. Joseph Miller's family. Ione considered the Miller family part of her family and felt blessed to care for their children. Ione and Erling were active members of Triumph Brethren Church for many years and especially active in the Prime Timers Fellowship group.

Ione enjoyed ceramic painting, spending time at their lake place on Middle Cormorant, fishing, cooking, baking, but it was time spent with her family she cherished the most. During her later years, Ione stayed active with church Bible study, WMF and volunteering as a greeter and guest services with Triumph.

Ione will be remembered and missed by her three daughters, Carol Lindberg of Fargo, ND, Shirley Gettel of Callaway, MN, and Betty (David) Bjornstad of Oak Ridge, TN; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erling (2006); two sons, Eugene and Jerry; four sisters and one brother.

Funeral Services for Ione will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 1pm in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
