Moorhead

Harold D. Schultz, known to many as “Butch”, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Moorhead, MN, surrounded by his family and under the care of HIA Hospice.

Born on October 2, 1946, in Fargo, ND, Harold was the son of Harold Sr. and Johannah (Strommen) Schultz. He spent his formative years in Moorhead, where he attended elementary school and graduated from Moorhead High School. In his youth, he gained valuable experience working on a farm near Twin Valley, MN, alongside his two uncles during summer breaks.

Following high school, Harold proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he participated in the Vietnam War.

On July 21, 1971, he married Victoria Elfering in Bealieu, MN, and together they established their home in Moorhead, raising two daughters, Michelle and Kristina.

For 42 years, Harold collaborated with his brother, Duane, at Duane’s House of Pizza, where his strong work ethic and quiet demeanor earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike. In addition to his professional skills, later in life, Harold developed a love for woodworking, which became a cherished hobby. He created many beautiful projects throughout the years for family and friends.

Harold loved the outdoors, and in the summertime, he enjoyed riding his Honda motorcycle, yard work, and cutting trees. Family weekends were often spent at McCraney Lake near Waubun, MN, where he enjoyed fishing and riding his jet ski. He always had a project or two that he was working on.

A consistent presence in his daughters and later grandchildren's activities, Harold was a dedicated family man. His gentle nature and unwavering support will be missed by his family and friends.

Harold is survived by his wife, Vicky Schultz of Moorhead; two daughters, Michelle Grant of Moorhead, and Kristina Schultz (Josh Somers) of Glyndon; grandchildren, Alexis (Zach) Revering of Barnesville, and Alyssa (Zack) Sanchez of Barnesville; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Olivia and Hazel Revering; siblings, Darlene (Larry) Larson of Buffalo, WY, Sandra Schultz of Bakersfield, CA, Sharon Such of Detroit Lakes and Rodney (Cheryl) Schultz of Detroit Lakes; and sister-in-law, Ann Schultz of Frazee.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Gavin Schultz; two brothers, Duane Schultz and Darrell (Linda) Schultz; and one sister, Beverly (Tom) Lynch.

A heartfelt Thank You to HIA Hospice for the exceptional care and guidance, especially his nurse, Kristin, for the wonderful care she provided to Butch.
