On September 13, 2021, Gerrit D. DeVries passed from the valley of tears, which is this World, into the joyous kingdom of God. Gerrit knew Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, and he has gone to live with Jesus. Ephesians 2:8,9 "For it is by Grace (God's remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ) that you have been saved (actually delivered from judgement and given eternal life) through faith. And this (salvation) is not of yourselves (not through your own effort), but it is the (undeserved, gracious) gift of God; not as a result of (your) works (nor your attempts to keep the law), so that no one will (be able to) boast or take credit in any way (for his salvation)."

Gerrit came into this world on February 12, 1939, in Richland County, south of Leonard, ND. He was born in the home of his parents, Louis Gerrit and Edna Frances (Kensinger) DeVries. He was born during a snowstorm. The midwife came by horse and sleigh to deliver Gerrit.
His family moved nine different times during his early childhood years.

They settled in Audubon, MN, and Gerrit graduated from Audubon High School in 1958. Following high school, Gerrit was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country. Upon his honorable discharge, Gerrit attended business college. After earning his degree, he accepted a position with the SBA (Small Business Administration). He was approached by Ole Rommesmo of Fargo Tank Company, (now True North Steel), to start a new division for them. The new division was called FTC Building Material, which Gerrit managed and sold building materials to lumber yards in several states for 36 years. For 11 years, Gerrit traveled on the road as a sales representative for Northland Steel, until his retirement.
Gerrit is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Darryl (Traci); and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service for Gerrit will be held Monday, September 20, 2021, at 2pm in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND. Gerrit's service will be livestreamed here on his obituary page.
