Geraldine “Geri” D. Fingalson, 78, of rural Ogema, MN, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at her residence under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Geraldine Dianne Thompson was born on December 21, 1946, in Moorhead, MN, to Percy and Margie (Kemmer) Thompson. She attended elementary school in Sabin and Fargo before relocating to Rochert, Minnesota, at the age of 15. Geri was baptized and confirmed at Bakke Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes and completed her education at Detroit Lakes High School.
Geri cherished her childhood in the countryside of Rochert, where her love for animals, particularly horses, flourished. During the summers, she and her sisters would participate in the Northwest Water Carnival Parade on horseback. Additionally, Geri helped to raise rabbits, chickens, and cattle alongside her family, nurturing her lifelong connection to animals.
In the spring of 1985, Geri was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Fingalson at Lund Lutheran Church, near Detroit Lakes. They established their home in rural Ogema. Geri’s professional journey included bookkeeping positions at Herzog Roofing and Rural Minnesota CEP, and she also managed the financial aspects of her husband’s business, “Bob’s Excavating.”
Geri relished spending time with her sisters, often embarking on biannual trips that created lasting memories. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at their lake home on Strawberry Lake, where summer activities included many fish fries, bonfires, and various lake traditions. Additionally, Geri had a passion for crocheting, canning, gardening, deer hunting, and fishing, and she was renowned for her exceptional homemade pumpkin and strawberry pies.
Geri will be remembered for her kindness, love for her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She is survived by her husband, Bob Fingalson of Ogema, MN; siblings, Barton Thompson of Fargo, ND, and Julian Thompson of Kansas, Patricia Nyland of Moorhead, MN, Jaqueline (Butch) Wang of Ottertail, MN, Roy (Shelia) of Buffalo, ND, and Evelyn (Rodney) Knutson of Colorado Springs, CO; along with many nieces and nephews.
