Gaylord “Bubby” A. Christle, 83, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family under the care of HIA Hospice.
Gaylord Arthur Christle was born October 9, 1942, the son of Gaylord and Ruth (Rynerson) Christle in Moorhead, MN. He was raised in Moorhead where he attended Moorhead High School class of 1960. At the age of seventeen, Gaylord enlisted in the U.S Army where he served in the Tank Gunner 4th Armor Division while stationed in Germany.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Gaylord lived in Indiana and Minneapolis, MN, before he settled once again in Moorhead. He dedicated his career working for Betaseed, Inc. as an agriculture specialist, retiring after many years of service. On June 9, 1984, Gaylord was united in marriage to Carole Oftelie-Swenson. Together, they built their life in Moorhead, residing in a house that was built by Gaylord, his brothers, and his grandfather.
A proud veteran, Gaylord was an active member of American Legion Post #21 in Moorhead. In 2022, he was chosen for the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, - a memory and experience he deeply cherished.
In his leisure time, Gaylord enjoyed various outdoor activities, including hunting deer in Lutzen, MN, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, fishing and camping. He also treasured a trip to Alaska with a friend, where served as a photographer for a grizzly bear hunt.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; son, Eric (Debbie) Swenson, Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Dillon and Elizabeth “Beth”; and siblings, Marvin Christle, Park Rapids, MN, Jennie Harrison, Littleton, CO, and John Fortin, Denver, CO; nieces and nephews also survive.
We wish to thank VA Health Care, Fargo, ND and HIA Hospice, Fargo, ND for their excellent care for Gaylord.
