Eugene Darold Robinson, 74, of Moorhead, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Born October 17, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, to George and Betty Jean Robinson, the family moved from Hays, Kansas, to Perham, Minnesota, while he was in high school. After graduating from Perham High School, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Long Beach, a nuclear-powered cruiser charged with removing bombs from the Hanoi Harbor during the Vietnam War.
Gene will be remembered as a generous person who loved to laugh. He had a quirky sense of humor and was known to send family members silly birthday cards. He placed weekly phone calls, told jokes, sang songs and endeavored to keep his long-distance family connected.
The day Julie Olson walked into his life, Gene’s outlook changed forever. “When you’re in love with someone, you’re in love with the whole world,” he said. They were married on September 10, 2012.
A person of deep faith, Gene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fargo. It brought him joy to have his Scottish heritage honored during the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans service. Gene’s family is grateful for the pastoral care of the church.
In spite of experiencing many challenges throughout his life, Gene remained an optimistic person who was curious about the world and prayed for peace. He consistently shared gratitude for family, friends and for the services of the Veterans Administration. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Julie Olson Robinson, sons Matthew and David Robinson, brother George (Carla) Robinson and sister Audrey (Craig) Robinson Favorito.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family kindly requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to the charity Gene chose, New Life Center Foundation in Fargo, a Christian organization dedicated to serving people experiencing addiction and/or a lack of shelter.
Date and Time are pending for a Celebration of Gene’s Life at Moorhead Manor.
We invite you to take a few moments to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with Gene’s family in the Guestbook below his obituary.
