Eugene P. “Gene” Cruz, 76, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, Thursday, May 2, 2024, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Fargo.

 Eugene Paul Cruz was born June 7, 1947, the son of Knute and Betty (Quam) Cruz, in Fargo, ND.  He grew up on the family farm in Dilworth, MN, with his seven Ochoa cousins with whom he shared many childhood “adventures”.  Gene received his education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Moorhead, and he graduated from Moorhead High School. As a young man he began his professional journey alongside his father, Knute, as a truck driver, before transitioning to a role as a construction foreman for many years.  

 One of Gene’s most prized possessions was his black and orange El Camino, which he enjoyed driving around during the warmer months of the year.   Another joy for Gene was spending time with his family and friends.  Known for his “Storytelling”, Gene could always be found sitting among a group of family telling some hilarious tale.   Most importantly, he will always be remembered as a big guy with a big heart.  

 He is survived by his children, Theresa (Randy), Michelle (John), Lori, Jason, Shane and John; his grandchildren, Allison, Amanda, Chris, Andrew, Zachary, Zariah, Destiny and Ryder; and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Arianna, Grayson, Mason and Avery.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Knute and Betty; and former spouse, Janel Cruz.  

 A Gathering of Family and Friends for Gene will begin at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead.

 Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead.
