Eldon W. Wollmann, of Moorhead, MN passed away on 09/29/2025 at the age of 89, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Eldon was born near Freeman, South Dakota, on February 22, 1936, to William J.A. and Justina S. Wollmann. He graduated from Freeman High School in 1954 and went on to earn a B.S. in Agricultural Education from South Dakota State University in 1959. While at SDSU, Eldon proudly served in the South Dakota Army National Guard, completing six months of active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and five and a half years in the active reserves.

On December 27, 1959, Eldon married Shirley Jean Dubs in Menno, SD. Together they began their life in Jasper, MN, where Eldon started his teaching career as a science teacher at Jasper High School. He later pursued graduate studies at the University of North Dakota, earning his Master of Science in Teaching in 1964. That same year, he joined Moorhead High School as a Biology teacher, where he inspired students from 1963 to 1981.

During summer months Eldon would be busy working with the National Farmers Union on crop hail claims, a role that later evolved into a long and successful career in crop insurance. From 1981 until his retirement in 2004, he served as a Crop Insurance Field Supervisor, with National Farmers Union and Rain and Hail Insurance Services.

Eldon and Shirley raised three children—Lynette, Tammy, and Troy. After Shirley’s passing in 1988, Eldon married Sandra Retzlaff in 1989. Following Sandra’s passing in 2006, Eldon found love again and married Maureen Batterberry in 2018.

Eldon was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones and friends. His life, filled with laughter, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of gathering together. Eldon enjoyed Pinochle, a game that brought him countless hours of fun and fellowship. He was a true adventurer, traveling to Germany with family to visit Josh who was playing basketball there at the time. He loved creating lasting memories. Eldon was a proud supporter of the Moorhead Spuds.

Eldon’s life was also deeply rooted in his faith, as a longtime member of Christ the King Church, he found strength, peace, and joy in his relationship with Christ and carried that love into all aspects of his life.

Eldon will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to both his family and his faith. Eldon leaves behind his wife, Maureen Batterberry, his children, Lynette (Kent) Mueller, Tammy (Randy) Cook, Troy (Jen) Wollmann, stepchildren Dan (Lynn) Retzlaff, David Retzlaff (Beth Gall), Shauna Batterberry (Carlos Reddest), and Laurie (Mike) Redlen. His sister’s Elaine (Johnny) Wipf and Joyce Hofer, and brother Robert (Cheryl) Wollmann. Grandchildren Joshua (Kelsey) Mueller, Kira (Darrell) Mueller-Bostick, McKenzie Lawler, Sasha (Tyler) Bouma, Alexis (Jesse) Ford, Jeevan (Shayla Kuchta) Mueller, and Cody (Kalli) Cook, Jordan (Brandon) Derhaag, Kegan, Raina, and Maureen Batterberry-Reddest, Brandon (Kayla) Batterberry, and Jacob Redlen. Great Grandchildren Traejan, Emery, Piper, Stella, Wesley, Daej, Felix, Roewan, Everett, Huck, Jettson, Saylor and Kora, Callan, Lily, Bennett, and Grady.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives Shirley and Sandra, brothers-in-law Junior Wipf, Ray Hofer, Bobby and Roger Dubs, sisters-in-law Dorothy and Linda Dubs, and his beloved dog, Molly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ the King Lutheran Church or to Sanford Hospice.

A Visitation for Eldon will begin at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 6, 2025, followed by his Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 AM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead, MN.

He will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
