Douglas E. Lee

August 11, 1955 — September 27, 2025

Fargo, ND

Douglas Earl Lee was born on August 11, 1955, to parents, Earl Lee and Jean (Knecht) Lee, of Moorhead, MN, who preceded him in death.

He died on September 27, 2025, at the age of 70, at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo, ND.

Doug lost his longtime partner, Alyce Moore, just a year and a half ago to cancer. His life alone in the apartment, which they had shared for so long, became tougher.  Alyce had 2 children from a previous marriage, Nicole and Michael, who were very important in his life.  Nicole had 2 daughters, Maddie and Mazie, who were the light of “Papa’s” world!

Doug was a kind man, always willing to help out, when his health allowed it. He was well known for his quick comebacks with a dry sort of humor.

He had 5 siblings, Karen, Jennifer, Sarah, Gretchen and Chris, who had the privilege of spending his last 4 days on earth with him in a beautiful and comfortable space where he could listen to the TV as loud as he needed to overcome the noisy oxygen he required for his last 3 weeks.

Doug’s close childhood friend, Jon Engelstad, was enormously faithful in his support and love for Doug, calling him “the little brother I never had”! Lots of stories were shared.

Doug’s other family became the enumerable ones that he knew from his daily visits to The Empire on Broadway… it was more home to him than his empty apartment, after Alyce’s death.  So many friends who continued to love him and give him help throughout those last tough times.

Doug is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins around the country, who were not able to see him in his last days, but who sent him their own love and hugs.

He did not want to have any kind of service, so we are celebrating his life in our own ways, and thankful that he is at peace.
