Donald M. Nelson

Donald M. Nelson, 93, of Wolverton, MN, died on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Donald Meloyd Nelson was born March 3,1925, to Herman and Agnes (Guderian) Nelson, in Wolverton, MN. He was raised east of Wolverton where he attended a nearby grade school and graduated from Barnesville High School in May of 1943. He then worked on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army in 1944, where he served in the Pacific theater and was wounded in Okinawa. Don recuperated in Hawaii, then served as an MP for the remainder of his tour until being honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return home, he continued farming with his family near Wolverton.

Donald was united in marriage with Leone Nord on September 24, 1949, in Wolverton, where they purchased a farm west of town and farmed until 1965. The couple then purchased the Standard Oil station and continued in business until his retirement. They continued to live on the farm for 69 years, where they raised their family of four sons.

Don prided himself in serving his community through Faith Lutheran Church Council, Community Hall Board, Centennial Committee, School Board and the Nelson-Otteson Post 370 of the American Legion for over 70 years.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Leone; sons, Mark (Johnny), Michael, Keith (Missy); daughter-in-law, Shayla; grandchildren, Cory (Linnea), Donald (Shandra), David, Jessica, Amanda and Garrett; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Harland; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Marion Stamness.

A Visitation for Donald will be one hour prior to his funeral service.

His Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 11:00 AM in Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton.

Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Wolverton.
