Dolores Ileen Larson

Dolores “Gg” I. Larson, 97, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, in her home under the care of hospice.

Dolores Ileen Griffin was born on September 14, 1926, to Patrick and Viola (Thornton) Griffin, in Baker, MN. Dolores went to school in Barnesville, MN, graduating in 1944. Growing up her and her brother, Donald “Donnie” were very close. They respected and cared for each other very much and over the years their friendship only grew.

On Dolores’ birthday in 1948 ( a Tuesday) she was united in marriage to Gerald Larson, in Barnesville. Together they made their home in Moorhead and had a daughter, Bonita. Dolores started her career at Fairmont Creamery, in Moorhead. Dolores later started a day care in which she ran for 30 years in her home. She loved kids and was a very supportive mother and friend. She was very family oriented and the matriarch of the family. Her and Gerald helped out on the family farm, which has remained in the family for nearly 100 years. Together they farmed potatoes, milked cows and cared for the farm animals . Dolores enjoyed yard work and working on the farm.

Dolores was a very hard worker but also had many hobbies. She enjoyed doing Christmas crafts, making ceramics, and helping Bonnie with her kids. She and Jerry looked forward to their daily walks with their dog, Jazzy, every night. She also collected trivets, angels and cows. One of her basement walls is covered floor to ceiling in trivets. She loved attending church services at St. Joseph’s, and the sense of community that came with attending. She was a member of the Christian Mother’s/Catholic Daughters. Outside of the church she was also in a homemaker’s group for many years. Gg always enjoyed a good hot black cup of coffee, all of her beloved pets, and a good chat with her neighbors.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Brandt; grandchildren, Heath (Amanda) Brandt, Heather Parchman, and Nichoel (Brent) Klinghagen; great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Grace, Lexus, Myka, and Taylor Brandt, Jerakhi Parchman, and Paige Klinghagen. She is also survived by many close friends she considered family, Don and Kay Litch; and their children, Danica, Kaylee, Landon; and Nicole “Nickle Pickle” Tschetter, Reba Tschetter and Joseph Larosier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, Patrick and Viola; and her brother and best friend, Donnie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dolores on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN. After the service family will continue sharing stories and enjoy lunch at the Fryin' Pan in Moorhead. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Barnsville, MN, at a later date.
