Dock Hinman, age 73, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on February 12, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1952, in Kansas City, KS.
Dock was adopted in March of 1953 by Dock Leon Hinman and Bonnie Jean (Glanz) Hinman, who raised him with love and care. He spent his early years living in Broken Arrow, OK, and Moriarity, NM, surrounded by his parents and grandparents, forming deep family bonds that stayed with him throughout his life.
As a child, Dock experienced a unique and adventurous upbringing. In 1960, he and his parents moved to Saudi Arabia. There he was exposed to diverse cultures and an exotic lifestyle that broadened his worldview. He returned to the United States at the age of 12 to continue his education. Following his parents’ divorce, Dock lived with his mother, Bonnie, in California, and later settled in Las Vegas, NV.
In 1970, Dock enlisted in the United States Army, serving most of his time stationed in Germany. Where he worked as a Mechanical Communication Equipment Operator. He was awarded the medal of good conduct and national defense medal. He was honorably discharged in 1979. During his military service, Dock experienced a defining moment in his faith journey. In 1976, he was led to Christ by a man named Dan through Save Our Servicemen outreach. From that moment on, his life was marked by a passion for sharing the Gospel. Dock used both conversation and music to reach others, joyfully witnessing to anyone willing to listen.
Music was one of Dock’s greatest gifts. He composed and recorded his own songs, with ten of his works receiving copyrights. His music became a ministry, reflecting his deep faith and desire to lead others to Christ.
In December of 1979, Dock met the love of his life, Mary Margaret Anderson. They were married on July 3, 1980. They lived in San Diego County, CA, where they welcomed their three children: Stephen, lnga and Carin.
In 1984, Dock and Mary moved to North Dakota, where Dock began a long and dedicated career as a professional truck driver, while continuing to witness both by music and conversations. Dock was also known as “The Singing Preacher” to other drivers as was his CB handle. He also served as a Chaplin for 2 years at the Petro Serve truck stop in Fargo, ND. Dock retired from professional driving in 2013.
Following retirement, Dock and Mary moved to Brownstown, IL, where they served as chaplains for Road Angel Ministry, part of the Association of Christian Truckers. During their five-and-a-half years of service, they ministered to countless individuals, leading many to Christ through compassion, faith, and service.
Dock is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary (Anderson) Hinman; his son, Stephen (Andrea) Hinman; his daughters, Inga (Kevin) Smith and Carin (Imade) Omonuwah; and his cherished grandchildren: Thane and Alexius Hinman, Abagail and Margaret Smith, and Edosa, Imina, Aisosa, and Ivie Omonuwah.
Dock Hinman will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant of Christ, veteran, musician, and minister whose life touched many and whose legacy of faith continues on through all who knew and loved him.
