Dennis Reno

Dennis Wayne Reno, 81, passed away on August 19, 2026, at home under the care of his family and HIA Hospice, following a 5 year battle with cardiac disease.

Denny was born March 11, 1945, in Moorhead, MN, to Osmund “Bud” Reno and Gladys (Halverson) Reno. He grew up in Dilworth, MN, graduating from Dilworth High in 1963. Always athletic, Denny was all conference in football, basketball, and track. He set a shot-put record his Senior year that held for 17 years.

After high school, he attended Moorhead State University, earning degrees in Industrial Arts and Coaching. He worked as a Moorhead Policeman during college. He was also a proud member of the Old Order of Owls Fraternity.

On July 2, 1966, Denny married LuAnn Costello at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Dilworth. They made their home in Dilworth, raising 3 sons.

Denny taught school in Glyndon, MN for 16 years and was a football coach and head wrestling coach He formed lifelong friendships with the players and coaches. At this time, he also taught driver’s training in both cars and on motorcycles. Denny then moved to the private sector, working in sales with his Arrows and Bowz business.

Denny’s quest for adventure started preteen when he and his horse, Socks, did barrel racing for many years until high school. He enjoyed scuba diving, taekwondo, hunting, fishing, and especially archery and pistol target shooting. Camping and canoe trips, with his family, were summer must-do’s. Fishing, hunting, shooting and archery with the boys was a pleasure. A Harley man, he and LuAnn along with other couples, toured the National Parks, the Black Hills, Sturgis and the mountains of Montana and Colorado, during summer trips.

Denny was an award-winning archer. In the 90’s he won state championships in Minnesota and North Dakota and placed in the Nationals in Kansas City. He proudly had 261 Robin Hoods, where you shoot an arrow into the back of the first arrow. He shot on a precision archery team for several years, giving demonstrations of skills like shooting an arrow into the circle of a Cheerio cereal. He also won many trophies in pistol shooting and was a range officer at the Red River Gun Range. He continued at the gun range until heart disease slowed him down in the past year.

Our discussions these past few weeks have been centered on how his love and pride for his family was unconditional. He will be forever loved and missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Louie and Laura Costello; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; Old Order of Owl Fraternity brothers; and his dogs, Storm and Diamond.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, LuAnn; his sons, Tony (Julie) Reno, Ross Reno, and Craig Reno; his 7 grandchildren, Ally (Ben) Hokanson, Sofia (Jordan) Spaeth, Jenna (Drew) Reno, and Thomas, Lily, Kaylee and Izzy Reno; his 3 great-grandsons, Luca and Jack Hokanson, and Camden Spaeth; and his grand-dogs, Shadow and Teddy.

He is also survived by his in-law’s, Dr. Bill and Lee Cross and their families; Larry and Mila Costello and their families; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 6 PM to 8 PM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.
