David Geoffrey Lanpher, 62, died in an accident July 1, 2021. But it was what he did in those 62 years that matters.
In that time, Dave was a loving son to his parents, Bill and Janice, and a dedicated father to Gordon, Jon and Christa. He beamed with pride as his sons followed in his footsteps to become a children's pastor and a Realtor, and lit up whenever he talked about his beloved baby daughter.
In that time, Dave discovered his passions for faith and service. Whether it was leading churches as a pastor or elder, helping people find their perfect home in his second career as a Realtor, volunteering in the community and region or serving on numerous boards and committees, Dave was good at connecting with people and making things happen.
In that time, Dave was recently elected treasurer for Minnesota Realtors, putting him on track to serve in the coming years as the association's president. He loved taking phone calls, day or night, to share his wisdom and passion for real estate with clients and colleagues.
In that time, Dave was committed to his family and friends. There was nothing he wouldn't do to show his love and support.
In that time, Dave discovered the courage to be his true self, openly and proudly, and showered his husband, Ryan, with love and support and encouragement during the 10 years they were together.
In that time, Dave paved the way for others to live openly, or get access to homeownership, or live in a community that tries to address inequality and discrimination.
In that time, Dave was so loved. He seemed to know everyone in town, and everyone knew Dave. His smile and big heart were infectious.
In that time, he became Grandpa Dave. He cherished watching his kids have children and make the Lanpher family even bigger and better.
Dave was born Jan. 10, 1959, in Lansing, Mich., and died July 1, 2021, in Fargo. He is survived by his husband, Ryan Johnson; his children, Gordon (Noelle) Lanpher, Jon (Jordan) Lanpher and Christa Lanpher; his parents, Bill and Janice Lanpher; his ex-wife, Linda Lanpher; his brother, Jim (Lisa) Lanpher; four grandchildren, Megan, Anna, Abby and Camden; Ryan's family members; his best friends, Chad Johnson, Nick Walberg and Robin and Ron Padot; and so many colleagues and Realtors who were practically his second family.
He's gone, but never forgotten. Mourned and missed and celebrated and remembered by his husband and family and all those who knew him. Dave was immensely loved, and he will always be in our hearts.
Dave's open visitation will take place noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, followed by a funeral at 2 p.m., both at First Presbyterian Church, 2900 5th St. S., Moorhead. The service will be livestreamed and available to watch on demand on First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead's YouTube channel.
Instead of flowers, consider making a donation to a charity, or find a way to give back to your community. Do something good to carry on Dave's legacy of being a positive force in the world.
