Darrel E. Nelson

Darrel E. Nelson passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, in Fargo, ND, at the age of 80.

Darrel was born in Fargo on December 28, 1938, the son of Donald and Lois (Bartholomay) Nelson. He attended Fargo Public Schools, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1956. After graduation he worked as a farm hand and a construction laborer. He attended NDSU and completed a Dale Carnegie Course before he joined in the family business, known as Dakota Food Equipment, later becoming an owner with his brothers until they retired in 2006.

On September 7, 1958, he was united in marriage to Nadine Lende in Saron Evangelical Free Church at Cooperstown, ND. They resided most of their married life in rural Harwood, ND, where they enjoyed gardening and canning their own harvest, and sharing their bounty with family and local food banks. Over the years. he loved the great outdoors, which included camping, fishing and hunting. He volunteered as an instructor for the ND Hunter Safety program and was an active member of the Fargo Area Sportsman Club. In their retirement years, they moved to Hawley, MN, and enjoyed time at their summer home on Strawberry Lake. After his wife, Nadine, passed away in 2015, he enjoyed volunteering at the Hawley community garden, spending time at the Hawley Senior Center, playing pinochle and watching Minnesota Twins baseball games and Bison football games.

Darrel is survived by his siblings, Ronald Duane (Lila Jane) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, Beverly Stewart of Ft. Wayne, IN, Robert (Dorothy) Nelson of West Fargo, ND, and Jan (Rick) Hanson of Fargo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine; and his father and mother.

A Visitation for Darrel will be Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 11 AM in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo with burial following at 3:30 PM, in Saron Evangelical Cemetery, Cooperstown, ND.
