Darold T. Walls, age 87, of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family and under the compassionate care of Hospice.
Darold Tillman Walls was born on July 4, 1938, in Iaeger, West Virginia, to Emick and Mildred (Elkins) Walls. He was raised and educated in Beckley, West Virginia, where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956. From an early age, Darold developed a deep passion for the outdoors. In 1957, he enrolled at West Virginia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. His commitment to education continued at Pennsylvania State University, culminating in a Master's degree in 1964.
Darold married Joan Sanders and was the proud father of two children, Pamela and Jamie. Joan passed away March 2, 2016.
Following his college education, Darold began his career in Amherst, Massachusetts, with the State Fish and Wildlife. Throughout his professional journey, he served as a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, holding positions in Moses Lake, Washington; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Kearney, Nebraska; Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; and eventually Jamestown, North Dakota. Darold worked for J. Clark Salyer National Wildlife Refuge in Upham, ND for several years and concluded his career as the complex manager for Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge prior to his retirement.
On May 28, 2016, Darold married Linda Renner. In retirement, he founded Dakota Lakes Products, Inc., where he created a gluten-free coating for fish and meats, showcasing his product at various food shows.
Darold generously devoted his time to volunteer activities during the North Dakota State Fair, representing the North Dakota Game and Fish. Additionally, he contributed part-time work at North Dakota State University, conducting soil samples across the state.
He cherished spending time with his family and found joy in gardening, fishing, hunting, and woodworking.
Darold will be remembered and missed by his wife, Linda Renner of Jamestown; his two children, Pamela Walls of Fargo, ND and Jamie Walls of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Heather (Luke) Underdahl of Makoti, ND, Heidi Lider of Fargo, ND, Chris (Kali) Lider of Grand Forks, ND and Mickel Simonson of Jamestown; great-grandson, Lane (Anna) Underdahl; step-children, Jason (Tracy) Behlmer of Detroit Lakes, MN and Travers Behlmer of Detroit Lakes, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Joan; and one brother, Ray Walls (2012.)
A memorial service for Darold will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church in Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior.
